Residents and visitors alike are lucky to have a vast network of hiking trails a short stroll from town. The Pyramid Bench (bench being a plateau above town) offers everything from interpretative forest safaris looking glimpses of wildflowers and wildlife, to steep hikes to wide open viewpoints and everything in between. There are plenty of delightful lakes and stretches of pristine forest to see along your journey. We offer both Half Day and Full Day hikes on the Bench and can tailor our route to your preferences.

Your guide, Ben Nearingburg, is a Jasper-local and author of several guidebooks who help you connect with the history, and ecology of the Jasper region.

We provide hiking poles, lunch, and water for your ascent; all you need to bring is a pair of boots and a sense of adventure.

What is included? Guiding Picnic Lunch Hiking Poles

What does a day on the trail look like? The Pyramid Bench is home to lovely lakes, wonderful wildflowers, and a vast network of trails of all difficulties. Let us know what your aims are for exploring this pristine forest surrounding the Jasper Townsite and we can tailor a route to your preferences. Full Day trips include lunch at a scenic picnic spot. We will meet in the Jasper Townsite to start the hike and head up to the Bench self-propelled (no vehicles needed and plenty of fresh air). Your guide will carry water for the group as well as tarps and a few warm layers in case of foul weather.

What is not included? Personal Equipment (see below)

Are there any risks? Any travel in the mountains comes with some risks. All guests will be required to read, understand, and agree to our Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumptions of Risks and Indemnity Agreement which fully details risks associated with this adventure.

What to bring:

Required Personal Equipment:

  • Hiking Boots (previously used and well-fitted, waterproof boots are highly recommended)

  • Small Day Hiking Backpack (for this adventure we recommend a pack between 10-20 L capacity for whatever personal belongings you would like to bring). Your guide will carry water, a tarp, and first aid supplies for the group.

  • Sunscreen, and Sunglasses

  • Personal Medications and Blister Kit (any medications you take along with any personal blister products such as Moleskin)

  • Clothing suitable for the mountains (your guide will carry a tarp and a few extra warm layers but you should be dressed accordingly to be out in the hills for 5-7 hours)
