You step off the Malecon into wind that already tastes of sea salt and sun. A 20‑minute drive north drops you into scrub and low cliffs; the trail climbs on loose rock, angling up 550 feet to a ridge that throws open the full palette of Balandra — shallow turquoise lagoons, pale sandbars and the iconic mushroom rock beyond.
moderate.
2–3 hours.
Requires moderate fitness: steady uphill on loose rock, short steep sections; suited to regular walkers and active travelers.
The guided activity covers 4.8 km with about 550 ft (≈168 m) of elevation gain; it’s rated moderate with loose rocky sections and takes roughly 1.5 hours hiking within a 3‑hour tour.
Access to Playa Balandra has local regulations and occasional visitor limits; this tour includes transport but check current park rules and entry fees before arrival.
Facilities are limited—expect no full services on the ridge; the tour meets on the Malecon where restrooms and shops are available before departure.
Children with good hiking experience can do the route, but it’s not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with serious back or heart conditions; the operator notes a moderate fitness requirement.
La Paz was named by Spanish explorers in the 16th century and developed as a port and fishing center; local coastal communities still practice artisanal fishing.
Balandra’s tidal flats and mangroves are fragile; stay on trails, pack out waste and respect local visitor limits designed to protect the shoreline.
