You round the last switchback and the forest opens — trunks lacquered with moss, orchids tucked into crevices, the air cooling as the roar grows. La Chorrera announces itself long before you see the drop: a thunderous column of water descending nearly 590 meters from the Andean flank, with the smaller, turquoise plunge of El Chiflón tucked earlier on the trail where you can walk behind the cascade.
