A morning drive out of Mendoza narrows the plains and climbs into the lower spine of the Andes. The road breathes mountain air; vineyards give way to scrub and rock, and the first view of the Potrerillos valley appears like a promise — a wide lake cupped by ridgelines and a distant waterfall.
