High-Flying Fun at the Aerial Adventure Course in Kittery, Maine

Aerial Adventure Course sits in Kittery, Maine, a coastal town on the southern edge of the state where forested lots meet Atlantic winds. At this two-hour ropes course you'll move through more than 65 engineered elements - catwalks, swinging tires, Burma bridges and a Super Swing - rising as high as 36 feet above the forest floor. It's the sort of activity that squeezes equal parts skill, courage, and laughter out of every participant, and it's one of the region's most accessible high-adrenaline options for families and groups.

What makes this course stand out is its scale and instruction. The operators deliver a "Preflight School" that fits beginners and nervous first-timers, while the layout keeps experienced climbers challenged with technical sections and balance obstacles. The platforms and lines thread through coastal woodlands, giving intermittent views of the nearby seacoast and subjecting the course to the crisp, briny air that defines southern Maine. Elements include tightrope-like catwalks, clusters of swinging tires, multi-span Burma bridges, and the signature Super Swing for a final surge of speed and airtime.

Practical details are straightforward: the listed duration is two hours and sessions are designed for families, teams, and casual visitors. The course requires participants to meet height and weight restrictions - at least 48 inches tall and between 50 and 275 pounds - and one member of small groups must be able to reach seven feet standing flat-footed. Staff provide harnesses, helmets, and safety briefings, so no technical climbing experience is necessary, though a basic level of balance and upper-body coordination helps.

Why go? Beyond the adrenaline, the course offers a concentrated outdoor workout and a social challenge that translates well to team-building or family outings. Compared to Maine's paddles and coastal hikes, this experience provides vertical variety: controlled exposure, immediate feedback, and measurable progress as you clear progressively harder elements. It's an accessible way to sample the region's outdoor ethic without hours of approach or specialized gear.

Plan for variable weather: wind from the ocean can make higher elements feel colder, and wet wood increases slipperiness. Wear layered activewear, closed-toe shoes, and be prepared to follow staff directions closely. For nearby culture and lodging, Kittery's historic shops, bakeries, and shoreline viewpoints are a short drive away. If you're visiting southern Maine and want a fast, social burst of adventure that tests balance and nerve against a coastal backdrop, this Aerial Adventure Course is hard to beat.

Groups should reserve in advance during summer weekends, and arrive 15 minutes early for check-in and gear fitting. Photographers should carry a short telephoto and a quick-release strap to switch lenses safely. Expect laughter, high fives, and the satisfaction of topping a challenging line; the memory lasts longer than the bruise, and invites return visits.
