Local insights

Wildlife

Seabirds and gulls over the coastline

History

Dubai’s modern coastline is largely reclaimed land—Palm Jumeirah and The World are engineered islands completed in the 2000s, while Burj Khalifa’s construction signaled a shift toward vertical urban identity.

Conservation

Helicopter operations contribute noise and emissions; stick with licensed operators who follow local flight corridors and minimize low passes over sensitive areas.

Adventure tips

Arrive early for safety briefingCheck-in and safety briefings take time; arrive 30–60 minutes early, especially if you selected hotel pickup.

Secure camera settingsUse a fast shutter speed and remove lens hood to avoid vibration blur; smartphone burst mode also works well.

Expect rotorwash and glareBring polarized sunglasses and a light jacket—the downdraft is cool and reflections off glass and water can be intense.

Health and weight checksDeclare any heart conditions or pregnancy when booking; infants must sit on laps and some operators have weight limits per seat.

Recommended gear

Compact camera or smartphone: Captures high-resolution aerial views; use fast shutter or burst mode to reduce motion blur.
Polarized sunglasses: Cuts glare from water and glass for clearer views and more comfortable vision.
Light windproof jacket: Rotorwash and early-morning desert air can be cool—layering keeps you comfortable.
Passport or government ID: Required for check-in and security at helipads and for transfers.
