You feel the helicopter’s thrum before you see the glacier: a small, bright aircraft carving a wake of wind over the Chugach Range, then dropping you onto a field of blue ice that seems to glow from within. Step off the skids and the world recalibrates — cold, dry air; a palette of cobalt pools and frosted ridges; the braided Knik River threading the valley below. On a stand-up paddleboard you skim mirror-smooth meltwater, edging toward deep crevasses and towering seracs that have been carved by centuries of pressure and thaw.
