Heletranz is the pioneer of Heli-Fishing—first made famous on Geoff Thomas’s original Snapper Secrets video in the early 1990’s—and has made thousands of fishermen happy over the years! The Hauraki Gulf and surrounding islands have some of the best fishing in the world, the sub-tidal reefs of the North-East Coastline and Great Barrier have a rich and diverse marine habitat which supports numerous species of fish including Snapper, Kahawai and Kingfish.
Even when the fishing isn’t that hot, the thrill remains on the faces of all who come with us—no one knows Heli-Fishing as well as Heletranz!
Depart from our Heliport in Albany, Auckland and head out to one of our chosen fishing spots, flying over the islands of the Hauraki Gulf—sometimes seeing dolphins, whales, sting-rays—with a bird’s eye view of the stunning scenery making up the land and seascape below.
We provide all the fishing equipment required for the day including: rods, reels, tackle and bait. Heletranz uses top quality spinning reels and 10ft graphite rods. The helicopter and experienced, knowledgeable pilot stay with you throughout the trip.
Bottled water and a fisherman’s lunch are included in the cost—bring a few beers to complement if you like. After four hours of ‘lines in the water’ fishing, we begin wrapping up and fly back to our base at Heletranz. Total trip time approximately 5-6 hours.
For exclusive groups, we can arrange to break the day with a restaurant meal on Great Barrier or Waiheke Island after the fishing, or a Pub stop where you can relax and re-live the day’s wins and losses or share past fishing tales.
Individual passenger weight is critical for a helicopter. The average passenger weight for a flight must be 85kg or less. Passengers over 100kg may be required to pay for an additional comfort seat. Please let us know the passenger weights when making a booking and do not hesitate to get in touch if you are unsure about weight restrictions. Weight restrictions apply to all flights.
All flights are weather dependent. In the event that the weather is unsuitable on the day of your scheduled booking, your flight will be cancelled and rescheduled at no additional cost to you. When booking please provide us with suitable contact information so we can get hold of you on the day. We suggest you call us on the morning of your flight if you have any doubt about the weather.
