Makana Lani Charters operates out of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii, a renowned gateway to some of the richest offshore fishing grounds in the Pacific. This region is famed for its clear blue waters, vibrant coral reefs, and dramatic underwater topography shaped by volcanic activity. The area’s deep sea environment attracts game fish like mahi-mahi, ono, and various types of tuna, making it a prime destination for anglers seeking offshore adventure.
Makana Lani Charters specializes in full-day fishing trips focusing primarily on trolling in deep water. Led by Captain Kenny Fogarty and his skilled deckhand Kalani, the crew blends experience with island hospitality to create an engaging and comfortable fishing experience. Their detailed knowledge of Kona’s waters helps them position anglers near underwater drop-offs and currents where fish gather. While bottom fishing isn’t routinely part of the charter due to the extreme depths offshore, trolling provides a dynamic method to target pelagic species.
What sets Makana Lani Charters apart is their commitment to a hands-on, personalized trip. Families and groups regularly praise the crew’s approachable style and genuine enthusiasm for fishing. The boats are equipped for a full day on the water—the kind of trip that combines the thrill of potential big-game catches with scenic views including the Kona coastline and attentive guidance from a team deeply familiar with local conditions.
Kailua-Kona itself adds to the appeal: a hub for ocean sports with warm trade winds and stable weather most of the year, it’s a launching point for marine adventures from snorkeling to deep-sea fishing. Makana Lani Charters offers an accessible way to dive into Hawaii’s offshore ecosystem, making them a reliable choice for anglers wanting a sincere, local experience on the water. Whether you’re hoping to land a trophy fish or simply spend a day immersed in the Pacific’s blue expanse, their charters deliver a balanced combination of adventure and education.
