A humid morning light breaks over the reef-side road as the bus pulls out of Port Douglas, passengers snug with coffees and anticipation. By 9:00 you’re skimming a lagoon aboard Hartley’s boat, the water daring you to come closer as a prehistoric silhouette rises for a feed — crocodile jaws breaking the surface with clinical timing. Later the rainforest closes in beneath the Skyrail, the canopy heaving and whispering as metres of cable lift you above ferns and strangler fig networks.
