A warm van slides out of Hanoi’s old-street chaos and, two hours later, the world opens into low rice plains cut by black limestone towers. At the trailhead for Hang Mua, steps climb the flank of Ngoa Long Mountain; each flight narrows the valley below until Tam Coc’s river loops into miniature bays and rice paddies. The climb rewards with a wide ledge where karst cliffs push skyward and the valley breathes beneath you.
