The studio door opens onto a corridor of concrete and light; tiles glint like tiny street signs and the hum of conversation follows the rhythm of hands cutting and placing pieces. SoWa—short for South of Washington—was once a cluster of 19th-century warehouses that artists repurposed into studios and galleries in the late 20th century.
The studio minimizes waste by offering reusable tools and encourages responsible disposal of grout and tile scraps; visitors are asked to avoid sending excess materials to landfill.
