The road unfurls like a nervous ribbon against the ocean—hairpin turns, mango-scented air and bridges that step you across streams before you can blink. By the time the van eases into the trailhead parking, you’ve already tasted the Hana Highway: roadside taro patches, banana stands where the locals wave, and cliffs that throw surf hundreds of feet below. The real work begins when you put your daypack on and head into the gorge toward the pools the locals call Oheo—often labeled on maps as the "Seven Sacred Pools."

The guided hike is roughly 4.5 miles round-trip through the Kipahulu/Oheo area, with terrain that includes roots, wet rock and stream crossings.
Minimum age is 8; younger kids who are steady on trails can do it, but expect a full day with long drives.
Quick-dry layers, sturdy trail shoes, and a light rain shell; avoid open-toed shoes near waterfalls and on slippery sections.
