About This Adventure

Our popular “Tree to Bar” in-depth, Botanical Garden, Cacao Farm Tour and Chocolate Tasting at the beautiful Hamakua Chocolate Farm just north of Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Our Chocolate Farm Experience:

  • tasting the cacao fruit directly from the tree
  • learning how cacao is grown and processed in Hawaii and other parts of the world
  • see how the vanilla orchid grows, pollinated and turned into vanilla beans
  • exploring our botanical gardens and stream-side rainbow eucalyptus grove and massive giant bamboo
  • cross a suspension bridge into our 80’ high treehouse overlooking our gardens and orchards
  • smell and taste your way through our spice garden where we share how we grow spices for some of our bars
  • taste fresh exotic fruit and sample our cacao husk tea (+a free gift sample provided on tour)
  • watch how it is made: a cacao bean to bar chocolate making demonstration-
  • delicious 12 course tasting of our award-winning estate chocolates

Requirements

• All guests need to be over 12 yrs old • Shoes, boots, hiking sandals, no flop flops • Be prepared for walking up long slopes and on uneven terrain (and possibly muddy or wet grass at times) • Tours happens rain/shine- so be prepared with sunscreen/ raincoats /bug spray. (We are in a rainforest after all)

Q. Do I have to come on the tour to see the farm?
  • We are open for drop-in purchases most days, but we request a call before hand to make sure we are up at our upper property and not on a tractor. From our Chocolate Tasting Lanai/ Sales area, you can see cacao trees, cacao fruit and have an overview of the farm and cacao orchard, but we do not allow self-guided tours.
Q. Are there any Family-friendly options?
  • We welcome guests of any age to join us for drop-in purchases most days with an advance call.
