You step out of the air-conditioned van and into a town where church bells cut through warm, coastal air and the streets carry the low hum of everyday life. The drive from Punta Cana slips past low, limestone plains and scattered farms; green cacao and coffee bushes lean toward the sky as the guide points out raw beans and explains the small-scale processing you'll taste minutes later.
