The boat slips off Negombo’s shoreline and the sea opens into a shallow blue stage where coral gardens play out just below the surface. Salt-slick wind pushes across your face as the crew runs through a quick equipment check; fins first, mask sealed, snorkel ready. When you ease into the water the reef doesn’t announce itself loudly—soft anemones wave like small flags, clownfish dart through their folds, and shoals of silver fish scatter away like coins thrown into the sun.
