A cold breath of valley air meets the windshield as the van rolls away from Jackson and onto the wide flats of the National Elk Refuge. Herds stretch like low waves across the sage; bison noses push at the snow, elk lift their heads at the sound of tires. Guides scan with spotting scopes, and distant peaks of the Tetons slice the horizon, patient and immovable.
easy.

Minimal fitness required; passengers spend most time in a vehicle with short standing breaks
No—Grand Teton National Park entrance fees are not included; guides will advise on payment options or passes at pickup.
Yes—private safaris have no age minimum and are wheelchair accessible; inform the operator of mobility needs at booking.
Expect elk and bison commonly; coyotes, bald eagles, and trumpeter swans are frequent, with moose or wolves possible but less predictable.
Guides adapt route and stops to road conditions and weather—tours may be shortened or rescheduled in unsafe conditions.
The National Elk Refuge was created in 1912 to protect wintering elk populations; the region also reflects Shoshone heritage and a long ranching tradition.
Keep vehicles on designated roads, maintain distance from wildlife, and avoid feeding animals; these practices reduce stress on wintering herds and protect fragile riparian habitats.
