You top out at Mt. Omuro on the chairlift and the air opens — wind pushing lightly, pine needles whispering, and the Pacific glinting toward the horizon. From that rim you drop into the Izu Kogen highlands, a patchwork of cedar groves, flower fields and quiet coastal roads where the landscape intentionally slows you down.
