No prior experience is required; guides teach techniques on-site, but you must be confident swimming in open water.

What safety equipment is provided?

Operators supply 5mm wetsuits, helmets and buoyancy boots (gloves in winter) and lifeguard-qualified guides run safety briefings and group supervision.

Are sessions suitable for children?

Age limits vary by operator; many providers allow strong swimmers aged 10 and up with parental consent — check at booking for minimum age and weight restrictions.

What happens in bad weather?

Trips are adjusted or cancelled for high swell or dangerous conditions; the operator will notify you (full refund if cancelled more than 24 hours before departure).

Ability to swimYou should be able to swim about 50 metres and be comfortable in cold, choppy water; guides will assess ability before starting.

Footwear for approachWear old trainers for the beach approach and change into dry shoes afterward — rocky access paths can be sharp and slippery.

Tide and swell affect routesHigher swell increases jump heights and current; choose lower tide sessions if you prefer smaller jumps and calmer swims.

Protect electronicsBring a waterproof dry bag for phones and keys; operators provide photos but personal gear is not covered.

Recommended gear

Swimwear: Wear under the wetsuit for hygiene and quicker changing.
Old trainers or approach shoes: Provide grip on wet rocks and sandy approaches and can get soaked.
Quick-dry towel and warm layers: Warm layers for post-session comfort — temperatures drop quickly after getting out of the water.
