Greenwich Village evolved from 17th-century farmland into a 19th/20th-century cultural and political crucible—home to labor struggles, influential artists, and the Stonewall uprising that propelled LGBTQ+ rights.
The Village preserves many historic facades and memorials; minimize impact by staying on sidewalks, respecting memorial sites, and using public transit to reduce emissions.
