A cold wind from Loch Ness greets the vehicle as it eases out of Inverness and onto the Great Glen. The road becomes a ribbon between freshwater and mountain; peat-streaked hills lean in like old storytellers and the loch’s surface dares you to look for what hides beneath. Travelers watch the countryside unfold—forested glens, brooding ridgelines and the occasional steam of the Jacobite train as it crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
