Meet at Warwick Railway Station, Brosnan Crescent, Warwick QLD 4370 for check-in at 7:30am, then settle into a carriage that feels like a moving museum — polished timber, brass fittings and windows that frame the sweep of High Country.
The route climbs out of Warwick, threading sandstone ruins, Victorian-era bridges and two heritage tunnels before dropping into Stanthorpe. The Granite Belt’s trademark granite tors and pink-hued outcrops give the countryside a sculpted, rugged quality; vineyards and orchards march across gently folded hills, while dry stone walls and paddocks sketch a long farming history. Keep an eye out for eucalypt woodlands, crimson rosellas and kestrels that hunt the thermals above the line.
Stanthorpe itself is consistently rated among Australia’s top short-break towns: cellar doors, seasonal produce stalls and compact country streets invite exploration during the included leisure hours. This is a low-impact, accessible day trip — ramps are available though a single step must be negotiated.
