You start on a sun-baked lane in Pyrgos, the wind teasing dust from whitewashed steps as the island opens beneath you—rooftops stepping down toward the caldera and the Aegean beyond. The first half hour winds through medieval alleys to the Kastelli ruins, frescoed chapels keeping quiet watch. From the village the trail slips onto old wine roads, stone and packed earth underfoot, climbing the caldera rim where the ground still smells faintly of sulfur and the sea breathes in and out below.

The guided itinerary runs about 5 hours covering roughly 8 km with 200–300 m cumulative elevation gain; expect mixed terrain and moderate to challenging effort.
A swim at Eros Beach is optional and weather-dependent; bring swimwear and plan for volcanic sand and a short walk to the water.
