The LEDs under the hull cut through the shallow water like a torch, turning the Intracoastal into a moving aquarium while the lights of Sunset Island puncture the horizon. You push off from a trailer-launch at 13309 S Padre Island Drive, and the sea—calm, wide and low—seems to welcome you as you scoot along the channel in a clear tandem kayak.

Participants should have good upper-body endurance and core stability for tandem paddling and re-entry if needed.
Yes—basic paddling experience is sufficient; guides provide instruction and the route stays in comparatively calm, shallow water.
Participants must be 18 or older. Single-person weight limit is 250 lb and tandem combined limit is 400 lb—operators enforce these for safety.
Expect to see blue crabs, redfish, stingrays and coastal birds; dolphins are occasional visitors in the channel at night.
Guides monitor the channel and use lights and local knowledge to minimize risk; always follow their instructions and wear the provided USCG life jacket.
Corpus Christi and North Padre Island grew around shrimping and recreational fishing; the JFK Causeway and nearby Marina have long defined local access and nighttime navigation routes.
Laguna Madre’s seagrass beds are ecologically important; avoid disturbing flats at low tide and follow ‘leave no trace’ guidelines to protect juvenile fish and invertebrates.
