About

This unit welcomes adults and children of all ages and is open from March until November.

Enjoy tent-style camping without having to set up a tent! Our Safari Tent offers you the excitement of camping but with the luxury of real beds and electricity. This is considered "glamping" and is a combination of the comforts of home and the Arkansas wilderness. The shared bathroom facility is within walking distance and includes two toilets, one vanity and sink, and one shower.

The Refuge is a nonprofit organization and the cost of your stay goes toward the care of our animal residents.

Check-in

  • Check-in is 3:00PM. Check-out is no later than 10:00AM

  • If you arrive before check-in, you will be able to tour the Discovery area at no extra charge while you wait for your tent to become available.

  • If you do not check your email often or do not have one, you can opt into text messaging. Please let us know at the time you make your reservation which is the best way to get in touch with you.

Disclaimers about Tent Glamping

  • This is tent-style camping and the weather will affect your experience. The unit has air-conditioning but can get extremely hot (well over 100 degrees) if the sun is shining directly on the tent in temperatures above 80 degrees. The unit will cool down again once the sun starts going down. We recommend you go play during the day!! You can also open the window flaps from the outside. There is a step ladder provided in the tent for that purpose. Just roll the flaps up and tie them.
  • The water heater in the restroom holds 5 gallons at a time and only allows for quick, camping-style showers. If you enjoy long, hot showers, our public restroom has a larger water heater that can accommodate longer showers.
  • If you are a light sleeper please bring noise-canceling earbuds and /or a sleep mask. We do provide ear plugs to help drown out the bullfrogs in the koi pond behind the tents. Or feel free to enjoy the sounds of nature!
  • If there is a burn ban for our county, we are not allowed to sell firewood or allow guests to burn in their fire pits.
  • Bringing in firewood from different locations is dangerous because tree-killing insects and diseases can lurk in or on firewood. Infestations destroy our forests, and property values, and cost huge sums of money to control. We have firewood bundles for $5.00 each located behind our Tigris glamping tent, near our RV spots!

INCLEMENT WEATHER: Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge does close during extreme weather conditions. We do not typically close for basic weather like rain or wind, but it depends on the severity of the weather. The team will monitor weather situations to make the call to close the refuge when the weather is deemed too dangerous for visitors and staff. Announcements will not be made until the day of the closing since the weather in North West Arkansas can change quickly. Some weather conditions that might constitute closing the refuge are lightning (which may delay tours), tornados, fires, extreme temperatures, blizzards, freezing rain, icy road conditions, and other violent acts of nature. If any of these situations are predicted please check for closing information on our social media accounts or call the refuge to double-check.

QUIET TIME: 11 pm to 8 am is designated as a quiet time for all overnight lodging guests.

NON-SMOKING: All of our rooms are non-smoking and non-vape rooms. If you smoke or vape in our room, a $250.00 Smoking Penalty Charge will be charged to the credit card on file. If you are a smoker, please ensure that any doors or windows in your room are closed to prevent cigarette smoke or vape fumes from getting into the room. Smoking of any kind is prohibited in the Self-Discovery area, on the tour loop, or within 6 feet of any animal enclosure.

GRILL POLICY: Due to fire hazards, no grills or portable heaters are allowed.
