Valdez, Alaska, located on the stunning Prince William Sound, offers one of the most immersive wildlife and glacier viewing experiences in the region through Lu-Lu Belle Glacier Wildlife Cruises. This private, day-long boat adventure takes travelers on the clear, cold waters surrounding towering glaciers and abundant marine wildlife. As one of the few operators with over 40 years of local expertise, Captain Fred and his crew deliver an authentic glimpse into this spectacular Alaskan wilderness.
The cruise centers around Columbia Glacier, one of the fastest retreating glaciers on Earth, providing guests with dramatic, close-up views of the glacier’s vibrant blue ice and calving formations. Along the way, the journey reveals an array of wildlife unique to these waters. Passengers often encounter humpback whales, orcas, sea otters, sea lions, and a variety of seabirds comfortably narrated by an experienced and friendly crew familiar with the region's ecology.
The Lu-Lu Belle itself is a well-maintained and comfortable vessel, designed to maximize the viewing experience and comfort on Alaska’s often brisk and changing weather. Passengers appreciate the crew’s commitment to delivering close wildlife encounters balanced with safety and environmental respect.
The tour departure is from the port of Valdez, a historic fishing town surrounded by rugged peaks and fjords that provide a rich backdrop for outdoor activities. Beyond the extraordinary nature viewing, travelers get to experience the warmth of Alaskan hospitality, with delicious local meals such as clam chowder served onboard to stave off the chill after glacier visits.
The Lu-Lu Belle Glacier Wildlife Cruises distinguish themselves by providing extended trips that adapt to nature’s pace, resulting in hours that can exceed expectations when wildlife abundance demands it. This flexibility greatly enriches the experience, making the journey well worth the time for those eager to see Alaska’s wild coastal waters at their best.
