Germaine's Luau: West Oahu's Classic Imu Feast & Polynesian Show

On West Oahu, at 91-119 Olai Street Kapolei, HI 96707, Germaine's Original Luau Package (w/trans) is an evening that folds Hawaiian cooking, ceremony, and island dance into a crowd-pleasing performance. Located roughly 27 miles from Waikiki on a beachfront property, Germaine's Luau has been presenting a traditional imu (underground oven) roast and multi-island Polynesian show since 1976. Guests from the cruise port are collected in the afternoon, then welcomed on arrival with a shell lei and the conch's call—signals that the night will move from warm aloha to full celebration. The centerpiece is the imu ceremony: elders and cooks uncover the Kalua Pua'a, a roasted pig whose smoke and salt-sweet aroma set the tone for the buffet of Hawaiian and American favorites. While the food is generous, the show is the magnet. Dancers and drummers trace routes through Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, and Hawaii, arranging speed, percussion, and storytelling into a high-energy set that keeps both kids and adults leaning forward. Between the Royal Court entrance and the grand finale, you'll see fine hula, fast-fire knife dances, and oceanic rhythms that reveal cultural differences across the Pacific. Logistics are straightforward: roundtrip transportation from the cruise port is included, the program runs roughly 6:00-8:45 PM with earlier pickup around 4:00 PM, and the price includes unlimited soft drinks, two standard alcoholic drink coupons for guests 21+, and hot coffee and tea. The venue's long-running reputation—named in "America's Best 100" and featured on ABC's Good Morning America—means it's set up to handle large groups without losing a sense of ceremony. Why book this as part of an Oahu visit? Germaine's delivers a compact, accessible immersion into Polynesian performance and Hawaiian food that's hard to replicate at shorter shore excursions or self-guided dinners. For visitors who want the cultural context with ease—shell lei, explanation of the imu, and translations of dance stories—this package removes guesswork and delivers a memorable evening. If you're photographing the night, prioritize the Royal Court entrance and the imu reveal for dramatic shots, and be prepared for low light. Respect cultural cues: wait for photo permissions during performances and taste everything—this is a feast meant to be shared. Plan to dress for warm evenings with a light layer for coastal breezes and comfortable shoes for brief walks across sand or grass; bring reef-safe sunscreen, a compact camera or phone with low-light capability, and a small amount of cash for souvenirs or tips. Consider arriving 30–45 minutes early to explore the beachfront grounds, meet staff, take pre-show photos, and settle into your seats before the performance begins comfortably. If you have mobility concerns, contact the operator ahead of time—Germaine's long history means staff are experienced at accommodating varied groups.
