About

Throughout a 3:30-hour easy hike you will learn all about the geological history of Gerês.

Explore the sedimentary record walking over moraines and examining till deposits. Whatever the season, witness the beauty of the lakes or the magnitude of the cirques. Find out how geology and biology worked together to form unique landscapes, ecosystems and species.

Discover the communal shepherding traditions, irrigation systems and land management and how mankind has adapted to the mountains and shaped it in its favour, since the Neolithic era.

We will guide you through the ruins of an ancient tungsten (wolfram) mine, its buildings, galleries and stories. Learn how both sides of WWII competed in these areas to secure access to vital raw materials and how local smugglers profited with it.

To round it off, enjoy the charm of a cascade of plunge pools and giant´s kettles – and, if the weather allows it, bathe in its fresh and clear water, weather permitting.
