You slide off Øystese quay as the RIB's engine cuts a wake across the main arm of Hardangerfjord, then the boat pivots and the world narrows. Steep rock faces rise like pages of an old atlas; waterfalls dare you to come closer, their spray stinging the air. The skipper eases the throttle and the fjord’s hush deepens as you move into Fyksesund — the only branch of Hardangerfjord without road access all the way in.
