A gust of sea-scented air hits you as you stand on the Xyloskalo ridge above the gorge, boots planted on the limestone lip and the trail disappearing into a shaded throat of rock. The first steps are a steady descent from 1,230 meters, through ancient cedar and cypress groves, past river crossings that dare you to keep steady on the stones.

Children who are used to long walks and steady footing can do it, but it’s not recommended for people with serious back, heart, or mobility issues due to long downhill strain and uneven terrain.
