A wind-cut morning on the Patagonian coast: the bus eases onto a long straight road and the sea slides into view, a ribbon of cold blue. By midmorning you’re at Punta Tombo, where the land seems to hold its breath for the colony — thousands of black-and-white shapes clustered on scrubby ground, calling and shuffling. The reserve’s marked 3 km path threads through this spectacle, bringing you within sight of courting pairs, nesting burrows and fluffy chicks without disturbing them.
