You stand at the back of an open-sided 4x4 as dawn strips the night from Maun and the engine hums toward the delta. The air tastes of dust and wet papyrus; the guide scans the floodplain while channels of water flash like silver ribbons. The vehicle settles into a slow, deliberate rhythm—this is a place where patience rewards you with elephants browsing, lions pausing in the shade, and elusive sitatunga slipping through reed beds.
