The Tutka Bay Express leaves Homer with our captain promptly upon scheduled departure time. While under power to our dock, guests are briefed on safety, kayak and fishing instruction. Whales and other creatures are often spotted in the Katchemak Bay ecosystem on our 25 min. ride to our dock in Tutka Bay.
Once we arrive at our dock, clients will unload and don appropriate gear for kayak fishing in a sit-on-top kayak. Kayakers also have the opportunity to kayak to hike, dig for clams, and view fish, depending on the time of year and weather. The kayakers and vessel will return to our dock upon scheduled return time where we will return all guests back to the Homer dock.
Kayak fishing can feel clumsy. When you are “out of water” you need to remember to keep your paddle and rod attached. When you hook a salmon, be patient and take your time bringing it in. The fish in Alaska are big enough to take you for a ride!
Alaskan coastal weather can change quickly, so dress in waterproof layers to stay comfortable throughout the day.
Protect your skin and the marine ecosystem by choosing environmentally friendly sunscreen.
Practice stable positioning in the kayak and avoid sudden movements to prevent tipping over.
