You pull away from the Mediterranean glare of Limassol and the coast peels off behind you: olive groves and terraced vineyards give way to a climb where the air cools and the pines begin to press close. The jeep rattles along a mix of narrow asphalt and firm dirt tracks, each bend promising a new village square, a dam rim with a wide view, or a shaded stream that dares you to step out and listen.
