The sun is low when the coach pulls out of Durban and the highway drops you into the layered greens of KwaZulu-Natal. By midmorning you’ll be rolling across dusty tracks in an open 4x4, wind in your face, the bush punctuated by termite mounds and the slow, patient silhouettes of giraffe and kudu. Hluhluwe–Imfolozi’s hills and riverine corridors open and close as you move through them, the landscape itself nudging you toward the next blind turn.
