Morning light arrives like a slow tide over the Gulf of Dulce as hikers leave Drake Bay and climb into a forest that feels older than words. The trail out of Los Planes quickly narrows: buttress roots curl across the path, the river dares you to cool off, and the canopy filters sunlight into sudden, green shafts. For a full day—typically 9–10 hours—this is raw jungle travel: river crossings, fallen logs, steep gullies and an ancient stand of forest many guides point to as among the park’s oldest.
