Climbing & Caving

This full day caving and climbing session is full of adventure and challenge. There are two possible caves, and two possible climbing venues. For beginners to both activities we recommend both the caving and climbing to be done at Burrington Combe. Goatchurch Cavern at Burrington is the perfect introductory cave, ideal for both adults and children. The climbing in Burrington Combe is excellent, providing a good range of climbs and vary levels of difficulty. One advantage of this location is the close proximity of public toilets and the Burrington Inn (good food, reasonably priced).

The default online booking is for Goatchurch Cavern and climbing at Burrington. The alternative venues are Swildon's Hole, the famous wet cave system near at Priddy, and Split Rock, near Wells, for those who may have climbed previously at Burrington. Please call or email to choose these options.

You can find photographs and videos of all activity venues here.

Ages

From 8 years upwards. Younger children can participate in dedicated family sessions.

Adventure Tips

Wear sturdy boots with good grip

The limestone terrain can be slippery, especially inside the cavern; solid footwear helps prevent slips.

Bring layered clothing

Temperatures inside caves stay cool year-round, so pack layers that can be added or removed easily.

Hydration is key

Carry water with you, as physical exertion and cave humidity can dehydrate you quickly.

Notify instructors of any health concerns

Caving and climbing can be demanding; informing guides ensures appropriate support and safety measures.
