Read the full experience

You leave Cape Town’s harbor hinterland and the city’s angular silhouette falls away; the road climbs and vineyards begin to edge the horizon like ordered waves. Morning light finds you in the valley between the Simonsberg and Drakenstein ranges, where rows of vines slope toward mountain shadow and a guide uncorks the day’s plan.

Adventure tips

Hydrate between tastingsAlternate every wine tasting with a bottle of water provided on the tour to avoid dehydration and palate fatigue.

Wear grippy, closed shoesCellars and terraces often have stone floors and steps—closed shoes help on uneven surfaces and during brief vineyard walks.

Sun protection is necessaryMidday exposure in the valley can be strong—use sunscreen and a brimmed hat during outdoor stops and terrace tastings.

Bring a small day packUse it for purchases, a jacket, and any snacks; many estates sell bottles you may want to carry until return to the vehicle.

Recommended gear

Sunscreen (SPF 30+): Protects against strong midday sun on terraces and open vineyard stops.
Comfortable closed shoes: Provides traction on cellar floors, terraces and short vineyard paths.
Light jacket or cardigan: Evenings and mountain winds can be cool; useful for outdoor terraces.
Reusable water bottle: Staying hydrated between tastings keeps energy steady and helps palate recovery.
