Thames Canoe Hire rent out a fleet of Canoes and Kayaks from our base on the Thames at Tilehurst, Reading. All boats have river licences and are rented out with paddles and buoyancy aids.
Full day hire starts and ends at our base, Reading Marine Services Boatyard. Mapledurham and Caversham are within easy reach with time to stop along the way.
Upon arrival at our base at at Reading Marine Services Boatyard, our staff will give you a full safety briefing and get you kitted out with buoyancy aids, paddles and dry bags before helping you on to your boats to start your trip.
Important All under 18 must be accompanied by an Adult 18+, ratio 1 over 18s to 2 under 18s."
Pangbourne: Further upstream than the suggested half day trip to Mapledurham, Pangbourne is approximately 5 miles from Thames Canoe Hire. An ideal day trip, paddling upstream to Mapledurham Lock, where the lock keeper will help to guide you through, before carrying on to Pangbourne. Go through Whitchurch Lock to arrive at the Swan Inn, an ideal place for food, drinks and watching the world go by - just make sure you don’t abandon your journey like Jerome K Jerome’s Three Men in a Boat and leave enough time for the return trip!
Sonning Bridge: An extension to the half day trip to Caversham, Sonning Bridge is approximately 5.5 miles downstream of Thames Canoe Hire and the same back unless you would like a longer stay and you can arrange collection from Sonning for an extra fee. After passing through Caversham Lock, you leave behind the built-up central Reading area and head towards Sonning Lock before arriving at Sonning Bridge.
