Set against the rugged terrain of western Maryland, the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers a one-of-a-kind journey on the Frostburg Flyer with an exclusive Lounge Class reserved for guests 21 and over. Departing from historic Cumberland, MD, this five-hour railroad excursion cuts through the scenic Allegheny Mountains, tracing the rugged contours carved by the Casselman River Gorge. The region is known for its dense hardwood forests and sedimentary rock cliffs, offering seasons of vivid autumn hues and whisper-quiet winter snowscapes.
What sets the Frostburg Flyer Lounge apart is the seamless combination of comfort and wilderness immersion. Step aboard to find plush leather parlor seats and spacious legroom arranged along large picture windows that frame Appalachia’s rolling hills and river bends in panoramic style. Unlike typical tourist trains, this experience is crafted to accommodate adult travelers who want to relax in style while absorbing the landscape.
A full bar complements the journey, boasting craft cocktails, fine wines, and premium spirits served at your seat, enhancing the leisurely pace that encourages lingering over every mile. Alongside the modern hospitality, the railroad maintains its historical roots—it follows routes used during the coal and timber booms of the early 20th century. The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad embraces these stories while playing a vital role in preserving the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Whether you’re passing limestone cliffs streaked with moss or watching waterfowl along winding streams, this trip offers a distinctive way to appreciate western Maryland’s outdoor landscape from a unique vantage point.
