When asked to come up with a quintessentially Copenhagen experience, natives will more often than not reply with Christiania.
The famous, and infamous, Freetown of Christiania, located in the Christianshavn part of the City, was founded in the early seventies when free spirits decided to occupy an old military base. From there, it became a self-governed commune for creatives and liberals from all of Denmark, and still enjoys this sovereignty today.
This bohemian mindset seeped through all the cracks and corners of the Freetown, and the natives constructed whimsical homes and used all manner of creativity to build a vibrant, artistic community that thrives to this day. The community boasts a variety of shops and cafés, usually with local artisan handiwork, as well as a Klondike vibe the further in you venture, with hanging bridges, artwork adorning every single wall and a handful of music venues hosting all manner of concerts throughout the year.
We have to agree with the rest of the natives: Freetown Christiania is simply unmatched in ambiance, atmosphere and photo opportunities. Therefore, Photo Exploring are proud to announce the first ever guided photo tour through this incredible part of the city!
