Acadia GEM started as an idea for a clean and fun way to explore Acadia National Park in a smaller, easier to maneuver vehicle. We loved the idea of being able to fit into a smaller parking spot in Bar Harbor, being able to navigate your way through our busy summer streets, and a way to have a different kind of experience around our beautiful island.

The GEM is a completely electric vehicle that and is rated for roads that are 35MPH or under (which will accommodate Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain). Acadia GEM is happy to offer a completely clean, energy efficient and fun way to plug into Acadia.

FAQ

WHERE CAN I GO IN MY GEM? You can go anywhere that has a 35MPH speed limit or under. we have a map that you can see, and be sure to get a printed map when you pick up your GEM that will show you some suggested routes.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE ACADIA? The longer the better! There is so much to see and explore you won't want to feel rushed.

Going to the top of Cadillac is the highlight of any visit to Acadia. You will need a reservation for the mountain. You can reserve your entry at www.rec.gov.

I AM ARRIVING ON A CRUISE SHIP- WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ? The first thing you should know is that our GEM’s are the best way to see Acadia and Bar Harbor! We highly recommend renting one for the full day. You will have the freedom to explore at your own pace. Acadia is full of natural beauty that you won’t want to miss. We offer a free shuttle from the tender facility to our GEM garage where you will start and end your rental. Once you have returned your GEM it is a short walk back to the tender facility right through the heart of Bar Harbor’s shopping district. We also offer a free return shuttle.

HOW FAST DO GEM CARS GO? To comply with the U.S. federal safety Low Speed Vehicle standards, GEM cars achieve a top speed of 25 mph.

DO I NEED A DRIVERS LICENSE? Yes, everyone who operates one of the GEM vehicles must have a valid, unexpired Drivers License and be at least 25 years of age on the day of the rental. Additionally, you will need confirm you have a current auto insurance policy that is valid in the United States.
