Four-Day Cenote Cave Diving: 8 Dives from Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico is the launch point for a four-day cenote dive package that threads you through limestone sinkholes, freshwater lenses and cathedral-like caverns. +4 Cenote Dive led by Dive Mike runs over four half-days with eight guided dives, visiting classic systems such as Chikin Ha, Eden, Tajma Ha, Dos Ojos, Pit, Nicte Ha, Tak Be Ha, Tak Be Luum, Angelita, Car Wash, Nohoch, Dream Gate, Zapote, Kin Ha and Maravilla. Check-in is 8:00 AM at the dive shop; the itinerary shuttles you Dive Mike > Cenote > Dive Mike and includes air tanks, weights, a full cave dive guide, water and snacks. Entrance fees are paid at each cenote and commonly begin at 400 Mexican Pesos; equipment rental and NITROX are not included. Prerequisites are Open Water Diver certification or higher, and some cenotes require Advanced Scuba Diver skills. Cenotes are collapsed limestone karst, their skylit chambers revealing fingers of sunlight that pierce a fresh-water lens atop denser groundwater. Expect clear thermoclines, fragile stalactites and arching cavern ceilings. Angelita famously holds a hydrogen sulfide cloud layer around 30 meters that looks like a river suspended below you; Dos Ojos offers long cavern passages and Pit plunges toward the freshwater interface where depth tops out near 40 meters. These are not just dives - they are geological time capsules where calcite formations and submerged tree trunks map the Yucatán’s hydrologic history. Guides emphasize buoyancy control and line discipline; passage through caverns can be narrow and silty, and preserving flowstone is paramount. Water temperature averages 25°C / 77°F, so a 5-7mm wetsuit is typical for comfort. The days are half-day operations, giving surface time for equipment checks and photography between dives.
