Discover the experience of a lifetime at our private Fossil Lake Safari near Kemmerer, WY. Have an opportunity to dig in one of the premier fossil beds in the entire world containing dozens of species of fish, plants, insects, birds, reptiles and mammals. Best of all, you get to keep the fossils that you find!

We are located approximately:

  • 35 minutes north-west of Kemmerer, Wyoming
  • 2 1/2 hours from Salt Lake City, Utah (Nearest Airport)-
  • 3 hours from Jackson, Wyoming

We are open 7 days a week 8:00am to 4:00pm from June 1st to Sept 30th

Important Information

  • In the rare circumstance a fossil over $100k in value is found royalties will have to be paid to the land owner in order to keep it.
  • The fossil bearing layers are a valuable resource. We have to clear in excess of 30 feet of overburden prior to the season to expose it. We expect guests to be respectful and not waste this resource.
  • The quarry is at high altitude (7,300 feet) and the weather can be a little unpredictable. It’s typically quite sunny during the summer reaching 80-90 degrees in July and August but can be substantially colder early in the day. Thunderstorms and brief rain showers are also quite common, so come prepared.
  • The nearest services including food and gas are in Kemmerer, approximately a half hour from the quarry.
