Join me on my very popular Cheese "Shopping Walk" in Amsterdam.
I'll take you around Noordermarkt and introduce you to my favourite cheese stalls and tell you about their specialities. Four very different cheeses from different countries will be purchased and then we'll have a 30 min walk to Troost Brewery in Westerpark to enjoy them with four very different beers. My cheese selction will be based on "Something Old, Something New, Something Stinky, Something Blue!"
You'll learn about the different styles of cheeses, how they are made and what makes them special, how a cheese in a shop looks good (or past its best) and about the different types of Dutch cheese and what cheeses rinds are safe to eat (and which ones the rind is the best part!). There'll also be plenty of time for questions.
Most people pair cheese with wine, but beer has infinitely more flavour possibilities and pairs wonderfully with cheese. Troost is one of my favourite Dutch breweries, they brew consistently top quality beers and some with a fanstastic quirky edge.
The price includes the cheese market walk and workshop, cheeses to eat in the brewery bar with bread and 4 small beers.
• The walk and workshop will take around 3 hours (but may go on later if there's lots of questions!) • Note that this event is not suitable for young children or dogs. • The talk will be given in English.
Take time to explore multiple cheese vendors for a wider variety of flavors.
Getting to Noordermarkt early helps avoid crowds and enjoy fresh selections.
Ask about special releases for a limited-time tasting experience.
Market stalls and breweries generally accept both, but check ahead.
