Milford Sound Fly-Cruise-Heli with Mitre Peak Cruises

Mitre Peak Cruises and Milford Sound Scenic Flights delivers an unrivaled multi-modal adventure that threads together aerial vistas and intimate waterborne exploration in New Zealand’s Southland Region. Departing from Queenstown, this experience carries you above Central Otago's rugged terrain, tracing glacial rivers as they feed into the crystal-clear waters of Lake Wakatipu. Your journey crosses two revered national parks—Mount Aspiring and the UNESCO-listed Fiordland—forming a natural corridor of dramatic peaks, ancient beech forests, and alpine rivers sculpted by millennia. Upon arrival in Milford Sound, the heart of Fiordland National Park, you'll board a purpose-built boat for an uncrowded, immersive two-hour cruise through this dramatic fiord. The cruise reveals geological marvels such as Mitre Peak, whose steep granite faces rise vertically from the water, Copper Point’s copper-hued cliffs, and the cascading Bowen and Stirling Falls plunging directly into the sound’s depths. Wildlife sightings enrich the voyage; expect to see Australian fur seals sunbathing on Seal Rock and pods of bottlenose dolphins weaving through the waterways. There is even a chance to spot the elusive Fiordland Crested Penguin, which frequents the area seasonally. The return flight offers a contrasting perspective aboard a helicopter, including a remote alpine landing, granting sweeping views of the Southern Alps’ jagged skyline and the sprawling Fiordland wilderness. This combination of fixed-wing and rotary flight paired with the intimate cruise ensures minimal crowds and maximum connection with the landscape. Mitre Peak Cruises and Milford Sound Scenic Flights stands apart in Fiordland’s outdoor adventure scene by offering this seamless integration of air and water travel, providing visitors with multiple vantage points around a globally significant natural area. It’s an essential outing for those wanting to grasp the scale and grandeur of New Zealand’s wild southwest. Conveniently arranged transfer options and complimentary onboard refreshments add welcome comfort to this approximately five-hour journey, accommodating adventurers of all ages eager to witness one of the world’s most striking fjords from both below and above.
