Field Trips at northtexassafaripark: Private Education Tours and Lemur Encounters in Bonham, TX

Field Trips at northtexassafaripark in Bonham, Texas put classroom lessons into motion with a private, education-guided tour that brings kids face-to-face with playful ringtail lemurs and gentle giraffes. Designed for school groups, this three-hour experience blends guided interpretive time, a short train ride through the grounds, and hands-on moments like lettuce feedings and in-exhibit encounters led by Sonora and the park’s education staff. The program requires a minimum of 25 students, accommodates up to 40 people, and allows two teachers per class plus the bus driver to attend for free. Schools purchase general admission tickets to enter, then add the Field Trips education tour to the day’s schedule. Sack lunches are welcome, making it easy to combine the guided program with picnic time and self-guided exploration of the rest of the park’s exhibits. What makes this program stand out for Bonham visitors is the proximity to animals in a managed, educational setting. Ringtail lemurs are the headline — guests can feed, pet and even be jumped on during supervised encounters — while giraffe lettuce feedings offer a classic, high-energy close encounter that students remember long after the bus ride home. The route includes several exhibit stops where guides explain animal behavior, diet and conservation themes appropriate for school-age learners. Families and trip planners should note a few operational details: the Field Trips add-on requires purchase of a general admission ticket; check confirmation emails for exact check-in details and meeting points, and plan transportation that arrives with enough time for the full three-hour schedule. The program’s size limits and age minimum (5 years) help keep encounters calm and safe for animals and students alike. Photographers and educators will find plenty to work with: dynamic animal interactions, accessible vantage points from the train and exhibit walkways, and moments rich for discussion about animal adaptations and conservation. In a region where close-up, supervised lemur interactions are uncommon, the Field Trips program delivers a focused, curriculum-friendly day outdoors. Prepare students with a short pre-visit lesson: review animal diets, respectful behavior around enclosures, and questions for guides to encourage observation-based learning. Bring water bottles and sun protection—much of the tour is outdoors—and pack wet-weather plans because exhibits remain active rain or shine. If you have students with mobility or sensory needs, contact the park before booking to arrange accommodations. These small preparations tighten logistics and make the three-hour program more immersive for everyone and safe.
