The sun slides down behind a cord of dunes and the caravan becomes a soft silhouette—camels stepping in slow unison across ochre slopes while the wind sculpts new ridges every hour. The first day unwinds from the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, past cork-like towns and Ziz Valley’s palm canopies, grinding toward the orange sea of Erg Chebbi where the sand swells into dunes as tall as 100–150 meters.
