The air cools the moment you step beneath the cave mouth and into the hush of Víðgelmir. A gently lit walkway threads through great halls of glassy basalt, where folded lava walls and delicate lavacicles catch the beam of your headlamp and the eye of the imagination. The tour feels cinematic but efficient: paths are signed, lights are fixed at key points, and the guide moves you from chamber to chamber over a 90‑minute loop.

Tours last about 90 minutes and begin at The Cave’s service house—guests should arrive 10–15 minutes early to check in.
The tour is rated easy with a family‑friendly walkway; children must be accompanied by an adult and those under six may be restricted from deeper sections for safety.
Helmets and headlamps are provided; bring warm layers, sturdy shoes, and gloves in colder months. There’s no hotel pickup, so arrange transport beforehand.
Photography is allowed; guide requests brief stops for photos and avoiding flash where signs advise to protect sensitive areas.
