These monasteries date to the 4th–5th centuries and reflect early Christian hermitic traditions that sought isolation in the Judean Desert while maintaining pilgrim networks to nearby towns.
The Judean Desert is ecologically fragile and water-scarce; stay on marked paths, pack out waste and avoid removing rocks or plants to limit erosion and habitat disturbance.
